Program: School Enrichment Programs: Leading, Learning, and Breaking Barriers

Who? Teams of approximately 20 young leaders, half from the host community and half from the international community, volunteer to team-teach in under-served public elementary schools in Central America, reaching thousands of children each year. Our volunteers come from diverse socioeconomic, racial, religious, cultural and educational backgrounds. What? Our interactive lessons cover such diverse topics as global affairs, geography, music, culture, environmental studies, and science. All our lessons include art, using materials often not readily available to our students. Where? We are currently recruiting volunteers for our SEPs in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. When? Approximately July 9 through August 8, 2013. (Dates are still being set by our school partners.) How? SEPs begin with a weeklong, intensive teacher training to prepare volunteers for teaching. Volunteers share living arrangements and break geographical, national, racial, gender, age, and language barriers. All meetings are bilingual (Spanish and English). Volunteers teach in Spanish. (Intermediate Spanish skills are required.) The deadline for our 2013 summer School Enrichment Programs is March 27th, 2013. Want more information?
